Hi
My name is Michael Morgan and I'm chairman of the Arts and Disability Forum
in Northern Ireland, set up in 1997. Our aim is to develop the active
involvement of disabled people in the arts in Northern Ireland, by
encouraging and facilitating disabled people's participation in the arts at
whatever level they choose, be it as consumers or practicing artists, or as
arts administrators and managers. I'd like to further develop our range of
operation by looking at similar Arts and Disability organisation and
practice around the world.
Recently a Millennium Awards Scheme has been set up in Northern Ireland to
fund visits abroad to gain knowledge and insights which could then be
employed at home for the good of the general community. My interest would
be in developing expertise for the disabled community. Specifically I'd
like to visit Disability Arts schemes in the US, as a particularly
well-developed area for Arts and Disability organisation and practice. I'm
thinking of looking atVSA (fomerly Very Special Arts - even they didn'tlike
the twee name) schemes in New
York or San Francisco.
The visit has to be completed before the millennium I believe so a week or
ten day trip in November or December would be ideal.
Best wishes,
Michael Morgan,
