Dear Colleagues,
During March and April the DC-Libraries AACR3 Sub-Group discussed issues
surrounding the draft of Part 1 of AACR3. These comments were drawn
together by Matthew Beacom and submitted to the Joint Steering Committee
(JSC). As a separate document he also submitted the comments Die
Deutsche Bibliothek had sent to the group. Both these documents can be
found in the file area of the DC-Libraries list at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/DC-LIBRARIES/aacr3-part1-DCMI-response.d
oc
and
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/DC-LIBRARIES/aacr3-part1-DeutscheBibliot
heck.doc respectively.
The JSC met with the Committee of Principals and the Editor of the
current draft at the end of April. In response to the comments received
from many interested parties they have decided to make significant
changes in direction to both the content of the new edition and the
timescales. To signify this change in direction they have coined the
new working title of "Resource Description and Access" (RDA). Details
of these decisions can be found at
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/jsc/0504out.html
One aspect of this is a desire for increased consultation with
stakeholders - so we can expect further contact as the work progresses.
My thanks to the sub-group members for their participation.
Regards,
Robina
