I'm pleased to announce a new draft of the DCMI Abstract Model
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/abstract-model/
This version builds on the work presented and discussed during the
meetings in Seattle. It includes a more formalised representation of the
model in the form of two UML class diagrams and two additional appendicies
(C and D) that discuss the relationship between the abstract model and the
DCMI recommended guidelines for encoding DC in XML and XHTML.
It would be good to see some discussion of this draft on this list over
the next four weeks or so, with a view to considering the possibility of
moving it to proposed recommendation status following the Usage Board
meeting in March.
(Note; Tom Baker has suggested that this document would benefit from an
additional appendix that discusses some of the historical background to
the development of the abstract model, and that sets this document in the
context of existing DCMI documentation. I don't object to doing this in
principle, but I'm concious that there has been a delay in getting this
draft out for comment and I didn't want to wait any longer. So, this is
just forewarning that such an appendix may be added in due course.)
Regards,
Andy
