as many have already noted, the problem has always been (mostly) technical and about expectations....
on the technical side, people keep signing up for listservs using their work emails and then get upset when it gets swamped with listserv emails....two solutions: use a non-work email or set up the delivery to daily/weekly/monthly digest format....
despite the obvious reluctance in using them, email filters are wonderful in weeding out the uninteresting stuff/people....because i dislike my inbox getting filled up with all these unsubscribe requests, i set up filters to take care of them long time back...in fact it works so well that i was not even aware of this latest wave of unsubscribing on crit-geog till some emails discussing it showed up in my inbox...
lastly, i have never understood why folks are constantly trying to set boundaries about what constitutes critical geography....one of the things i love about geography is that it is very open to all forms of knowledge and areas of investigations....and if you are really upset with the current content, no one is stopping you from *improving* it through your contributions....you may be pleasantly surprised with the response...
i personally enjoy learning about the work of other geographers through the listserv, even though i may not understand them completely....i request everyone to participate to make this a forum a more collegial and educative space, rather than expecting it to serve only one's narrow interests....it is not designed to provide a curated experience and it is not advertised as such....
