The new Climate Impacts Research Centre would provide a great home for early
career researchers looking to develop their own research agenda in this
field - both posts are flexible in terms of department, and the
law/governance is aimed at early career researchers. There could also be
some flexibility in the vulnerability/resilience post. Posts are advertised
in full at : www.dur.ac.uk/jobs.

We are seeking 4 posts in Climate Impacts Research as part of Durham
University's Strategic Investment Programme. These posts will be linked to
the new Climate Impact Research Centre (CIRC) which aims to generate world
leading research that makes a significant contribution to knowledge of
climate impacts and can influence policy and practice. As well as leading
theoretically and methodologically innovative research, the work of the
Centre will engage closely with non-academic partners to build a community
of research and practice. CIRC will undertake research on the past, present
and future impacts of climate change. Climate change is widely recognised as
one of the leading Global Challenges and CIRC aims to consolidate and extend
current climate impacts research strengths across the University and build
research capacity. The Centre will co-ordinate Durham's climate impact work
and provide a clearer route for exchange between researchers and other
climate impact stakeholders, both in the UK and internationally.
Chair/Reader/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Climate Change Law and Governance
(Ref. 2510)
We are seeking to appoint a scholar with a world-leading research programme,
or potential to develop such a programme, in the field of environmental &
climate change law and governance. The appointee will strengthen Durham's
global reputation for scholarship engaging with fundamental questions on
climate change and impacts. Based in the Law School, or the School of
Government and International Affairs, and engaging with colleagues across
the physical and social sciences, the appointee will shape and develop
research projects which develop solutions and strategies to address climate
change and to secure climate justice. The appointee will complement the
strategic investment in these fields across Durham University, as well as
enhancing current research strengths in international public law, conflict,
European Union law, human rights and global policy.
Professor/Reader in Vulnerability and Resilience to climate impacts (Ref.
2511)
We seek to appoint a Professor or Reader with an outstanding track record
and the vision and capacity to lead a multi-disciplinary programme of work
relating to the impacts of climate change for human health, wellbeing and
livelihoods, and the cultural, social, economic or political processes which
may contribute to vulnerability and resilience to these impacts. A strong
commitment to interdisciplinary working, in collaboration with specialists
in physical, social and human sciences will be essential to this role.
Climate Impacts Research at Durham.
The University offers a thriving environment in which to pursue
cross-disciplinary research on climate impacts. Climate Impact research is
undertaken in a range of Departments and cross-disciplinary Institutes at
Durham. CIRC will have close links to the Institute of Hazard Risk and
Resilience (IHRR), established in 2006, and which undertakes work on risk
and resilience, including some climate-related studies. More generally, IHRR
has taken on a pan-University function, aiming to enable, develop and
support world-leading research, knowledge exchange and research impact in
hazard, risk and resilience.
