Hi everyone,
I am new to this list and was wondering if anyone knew of any material
written about mapping/geog in performance.
I am writing a PhD on plays by contemporary urban Aboriginal women and I
feel as a spectator in response to them. How they work to include (or not)
me in the process - I believe that the plays I am looking at use mapping.
By this I mean they are both textually and pefrofmatively involved in
questioning identity and reclaiming space/place for representation. They
also map the space (performance space) by bodily inscriptions/inscription on
the set - for example one of the plays is performed on a sculpture/painting
of the face of the performer.
These plays are political (not necessarily overtly) but they call me (the
subjective me-helena) to become involved in what they are doing - I question
my place in response ...
So I am looking at how they involve me in the mapping process and how what I
bring with me (my baggage - cultural etc) informs my participation.
Sorry for being longwinded. Basically I would like to talk to anyone who
thinks this makes sense or who knows any reading that might enhance me
wonderings.
thanks in advance
