Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Global Urban Studies
Faculty of Arts, University of Calgary
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications
for a Canada Research Chair (Tier II), 'tenure-track' or 'with tenure'
appointment in Global Urban Studies. We invite applications from
excellent scholars with urban-based expertise. Appointment of the
successful candidate will be in the most appropriate home department
within the Faculty of Arts. The appointment date for the successful
candidate is anticipated to be Fall 2015.
Urban Studies at the University of Calgary is an exciting and dynamic
interdisciplinary program with over 230 undergraduates. The Urban
Studies program also has strong ties to local, national and
international organizations, such as the University of Calgary-City of
Calgary "Urban Alliance" and numerous Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council-funded research initiatives addressing urban change
across Canada and around the world.
The Canada Research Chair in Global Urban Studies will be expected to
conduct internationally recognised research exploring the challenges
created by ongoing urbanization, particularly the environmental,
cultural, political and/or social problems accompanying urban growth.
The successful candidate must be well grounded in contemporary urban
theory and the dynamic relationship between globalization, urban
development, and urban life. Scholars are expected to take a
comprehensive approach to urban studies and have a demonstrated record
of interdisciplinary research.
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in an
urban-related discipline, a strong record of research on urban issues,
peer-reviewed publications in prominent urban studies journals, and
demonstrated excellence as an instructor. While this position will
have a reduced teaching load, the Chair will be expected to contribute
to the Urban Studies Program's undergraduate course offerings and
relevant graduate student education.
