Dear all in the CHAT network,
We hope you are keeping well during these challenging and difficult times. We didn’t send out the traditional ‘Christmas email’ this year, but decided to delay our message until the New Year and now we’d just like to send an update on CHAT matters.
We are still hoping to meet 5-7 November 2021 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain for the annual CHAT conference, if travel and restrictions surrounding Covid allow. We’ll let everyone know in good time. For now, remember the theme of ‘movement’, defined very broadly. We can also now announce that the 2022 conference is set to be held in Lisbon, Portugal! We’d love to receive any expressions of interest in hosting CHAT meetings from 2023 onwards.
An update on changes to the Standing Committee. Anna McWilliams and Paul Graves-Brown stood down from the committee this year and we have taken on four new committee members: Miriam Rothenberg, Rachael Kiddey, Bill Caraher and Rebecca Hearne.
Rachael and Bill are relaunching the CHAT BAR publication series. The inaugural volume will draw together some of the highlights from festivalCHAT and a call for contributions will be sent to festivalCHAT contributors soon. If you would like to submit a proposal for a monograph or edited volume, please contact Bill or Rachael directly.
We were thrilled by the response to festivalCHAT. It was ambitious, hard work, but enormous fun and the multi-format approach to virtual conferencing has been picked up and is being replicated by two other conferences this year! The festival website is still live and we’d welcome updates from those who took part. We can share updates on our social media platforms: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and You Tube. Thank you to everyone who donated to our bursary fund via the festival website. Thanks to your generosity we raised £210 that will go toward future bursaries for those on low income. As there was so much fabulous content during festivalCHAT, we’re currently sending out bi-weekly highlights via the hashtag #randomCHAT on Twitter and Instagram. A slower way to enjoy the festival all over again.
We’ll be launching a new CHAT website this year. More on that to come! In the meantime do follow our social media platforms
• @CHATArch on Twitter
• chatarchaeology on Instagram
• Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory Group on Facebook
• CHATarchaeology on You Tube
PubCHATs in the Americas and UK/Europe will be resuming next month. We’d love more people to host PubCHATs in different time zones and in other languages. If you’re interested do please drop us a line.
Keep safe, do keep posting your news,
All best wishes from the CHAT Standing Committee.
