The machine is an SGI Octane (R10K) running Irix 6.5.17 with MIPSpro 7.3
compilers and python 2.3.4 with numeric 23.1
SGI's GL and glut just don't work well with python for some reason.
Apparently, SGI's GL and glut are not OpenGL. There is supposed to
be a python module to translate calls for python, but it does not
compile. Therefore, I used the ignore GL option for tk graphics only.
X11 is in /usr
tcl8.3.5, tk 8.3.5, and python2.3.4 are all installed in /usr/local
The origin of the problem is that the 32 bit X11 library for SGI is
in /usr/lib32 Use of lib32 for SGI libraries in /usr is the standard
SGI applied to maintain some sort of backwards compatibility.
However, use of /usr/local/lib for libraries in /usr/local is the
standard for open-source software installations.
In order to build on SGI, I edited the environment.txt to change the
X11 libraries reference to read /usr/lib32 and did a make with that
revision. Following that make, I ran the linking scripts manually
and manually created the bin directory and its contents. Once all
this was done, analysis could be run without difficulty. Since Irix
6.5 maintains for backwards compatibility a set of libraries in /usr/lib
that are not compatible with normal compilations, one cannot link
/usr/lib32 to /usr/lib This is unlike the situation reported on
for the prior version.
In passing, I note that the last line for each of the scripts placed
in the bin directory does not have an end of line character at the end.
Sincerely,
