> CALL FOR PAPERS
> Eighteenth-Century Ireland Society/An Cumann Éire San Ochtú Céad Déag
> 2013 Annual Conference
> NUI, Maynooth
> 7-9 June 2013
>
> 2013 marks the tercentenary of the Treaty of Utrecht and the 250th
> anniversary of the Treaty of Paris, concluding two of the most “global”
> wars of the eighteenth century. Accordingly, the theme of the conference
> is “Ireland and Geopolitics” and we welcome especially any papers which
> treat the Irish eighteenth century within a geopolitical context. The
> strategic situation of Ireland and the Irish in the eighteenth century is
> reflected in part by the political significance of canonical authors such
> as Swift and Burke, but also in terms of the diasporic Irish presence
> across Europe and the Americas, an influence that helped to determine the
> shifting balance of power between rival states throughout this period.
>
> However, as usual, papers treating any aspect of Ireland and the Irish in
> the course of the long eighteenth century will be welcomed. Papers may be
> presented in either English or Irish.
>
> Abstracts of c.300 words should be emailed to Dr Conrad Brunstrom –
