Hi Mark - and all,
Thanks for raising this Mark. There is an issue about (the lack of) streams at the BSA and this was raised by study group conveners at the last conference. The BSA representatives said that the issue was related to the large number of study groups - i.e. to organise streams for them all would be logistically difficult. I think this is an unresolved issue, though, and one which will come up again at the next conveners meeting.
As Mark says, it would be a real shame for group members to be split between the various other streams even though, as Mark says, many of us work in areas that are cross-cutting between established streams. I would suggest that we submit our papers to the Open Stream but that we make clear when submitting our abstract that we are submitting as part of the gender study group. This solution was also proposed by another study group convener so we will not be on our own in doing this. I would suggest writing 'Gender Study Group' at the top of your abstract. Do all send other thoughts though...
All best,
Sally

Subject: BSA Conference 2013
Dear All,
I see that there is no gender and/or sexuality stream in the BSA 2013 annual conference again this year, which is very disappointing and something not mirrored at ASA.
I recall when inquiring about a similar omission last year that it was attributed to there being a lack of study group. Now such a group exists, I was first wondering if there was a different reason for this -- and whether there are plans to change this absence for 2014.
I was also wondering if there was one particular stream that members of this group would be likely to submit to. I know my research could fit into a number of groups but it would be nice to try and have a group within a group, rather than us all presenting in different streams. Should we all submit to the open stream?
Thanks,
Mark
