> A SPECIAL ISSUE ON ‘VOICE AND AGENCY’
> Guest editors:
> Sarah Gammage, Naila Kabeer, and Jeni Klugman
> The deprivations of voice and agency that characterize the lives of women and girls in much of the world typically result from adverse social norms, often compounded by poverty and other sources of socio-economic disadvantage, as well as by legal discrimination.
> An urgent policy agenda is needed, beginning with tackling discriminatory laws and extending to policies to expand economic opportunities, social protection, and education. To bring feminist voices to this agenda, Feminist Economics invites submissions to a planned special issue on voice and agency.
> The special issue is planned for print publication in October 2015 (with advance online publication). Feminist Economics especially welcomes contributions from the Global South and transition economies.
> Topics include, but are not limited to:
> • The role of norms, constraints, and deprivations in restricting women’s voice and agency
> • Enhancing women’s agency: a cross-cutting agenda and interdisciplinary approach
> • Freedom from violence: gender-based violence as a challenge to women everywhere
> • Sexual and reproductive health and rights: promoting control and autonomy
> • Land, housing, and decent jobs: women’s economic empowerment as transformative
> • Amplifying voices: participation and collective action
> • The potential role and risks of various new information and communication technologies
> • Closing gaps in data and evidence: monitoring change and assessing progress
> Deadline for abstracts:
> Please send paper titles and abstracts (up to 250 words) to the Guest Editors, Sarah Gammage, Naila Kabeer, and Jeni Klugman, along with your name and institutional affiliation, telephone, and email address to [log in to unmask], no later than 1 October 2014. Indicate “Voice and Agency” in the subject line. (Queries should also be directed to the Guest Editors at this email address.)
> If the Guest Editors approve the abstract, the complete manuscript will be due by 1 November 2014 and should be submitted to Feminist Economics through the submissions website.
> Papers must be clearly written in English and not exceed 10,000 words, including tables and references. They must also adhere to journal style and formatting. For questions about these procedures, please contact [log in to unmask], +1.713.348.4083 (phone), or +1.713.348.5495 (fax).
