- nothing to change about it. PUBLIC as opposed to closed, or private,
anyone can join or leave without formality. This I think is important, and
wouldn't want to change. ARCHIVED in that, as is the usual practice with
mailbase lists, and similar (such as Poetics, and Poetryetc), all the
messages sent are stored, and are openly searchable from the mailbase
archive. Information on this was given in the welcome message when you
joined. I've found the archive useful, and I know others - on and off the
list - have, and wouldn't want to change it. ACADEMIC-BASED is exactly
true: Mailbase is the server of the UK Academic Community, and that much
is implicit in its ac.uk address. There are, of course, many other inputs
to the list than the "purely" academic, and I welcome that, indeed, I
think it's a vital element of it - but nevertheless it's academic based.
>From time to time I have to justify the list to Mailbase in terms of its
contribution to the academic community, who pay for it. DISCUSSION LIST is
general terminology for a list where discussion takes place: the actual
homepage of the list says "Discussion and news list for practitioners of
current poetry and poetics, with emphasis on recent postmodern and
innovative poetries in Britain and Ireland." OK?
We talked somewhat about CENSORSHIP and the regimes in which it takes
place earlier this month. Anyone who has any experience, however slight,
of such regimes, will be keen that the word should not be invoked lightly.
If we decide we want a censor (or moderator, as the equivalent in e-list
circles) for this list, we'll also need a new listowner.
