Peter Riley opposed Beckett to the spirit of hypertext. Can he be sure?
Wasn't it Beckett who took that banal new invention, the tape recorder,
and made it the focus of a masterpiece.
And what could be more Beckettian than the lonely figure at his
computer, clicking at links, hoping to get somewhere, getting nowhere.
As for we deuded fools who experiment and search for new forms, can't we
derive at least a speck of comfort from "Fail. Try again. Fail better."?
