Afternoon all
I am wondering if anyone can help me identify some archives. They have been passed to me from the Local Studies collection. I have no provenance for them and an internet search so far has been fruitless. I can make an educated guess but am hoping someone will know exactly what they are, why they were produced and who produced them
They appear to be property surveys (possibly undertaken by poor law or local government). The booklets are arranged by ward and within the booklets the roads are arranged alphabetically. The information collected is statistical and includes:
Name of street
Where situate
Dwelling homes occupied by: English
Irish
Unoccupied
Shops being dwelling houses occupied by: English
Irish
Unoccupied
Cellars occupied by: English
Irish
Unoccupied
Public houses
Beer houses
Warehouses
Factories and loom sheds
Machine shops and foundries
Smithies and bolt manufacturers
Saw mills and joiners shops
Hat manufacturers
Plumbers and glaziers shops
Other workshops
Churches and Chapels
Schools
Shops, not dwelling
Miscellaneous buildings
I have books for various wards for the years 1871; 1872 and 1878.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
