UK Hip Hop Heritage Archive Project

Background
Hip Hop Heritage has obtained Heritage Lottery funding for a project to preserve and promote the work of the UK’s Hip Hop pioneers in the 1980s.
The Project Manager will work on a freelance contract and be responsible for their own tax and NI contributions. The contract will last 9 months from June 2014.
Job Description
The Project Manager will coordinate the gathering together of archive UK Hip Hop related materials. They will undertake the scanning, captioning, cataloguing and archiving of the negatives and transparencies for the ‘Zulu Dawn’ Archive at Dudley Archive Centre - as well as an archive of video materials.
They will edit the project website.
The Manager will coordinate the freelance contractors delivering video reminiscence films and facilitate liaison with Sandwell College’s students and others in making and editing the films. They will liaise with Loughborough University in setting up motion capture sessions and creating avatar figures in virtual environments.
They will liaise with the graphic designer of the Zulu Dawn Book regarding the content, layout and design of the book and the distribution of the finished publication to schools.
They will also liaise with a designer regarding a planned exhibition.
They will oversee 3 secondary school Key Stage 3 interventions using curriculum materials created from the archive.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge required
Demonstrable knowledge of the history and development of UK Hip Hop’s early years.
Personal contact with the originators of the culture in the UK desirable; or can demonstrate a strong interest in B Boying, graffiti art, rap and deejaying.
Skills
Computer literate
Competent at scanning and archiving materials
Good standard of literacy and copy editing skills
Video editing skills
Excellent communicator
Skilled at working with young people.
