Anne,
Having myself gone through the process of procuring new Display cases
recently all this is fairly fresh in my head.
If you want a simple first overview of display case suppliers the LMA
website has useful guidance sheets on a number of issues relating to
exhibition cases. Go to the MLA website, click on information, and then
Advice & Guidance
http://www.mla.gov.uk/information/advice/00advice.asp
Then choose 'Security', and then scroll down to Security Specifications for
4 useful articles on this.
Regarding the list of suppliers, Security Advisor Ian Slessor I understand
will be updating the list with this years revision, and I & Co.'s details
are incorrect. They can be found at http://www.armoursystems.co.uk However
if you really want comprehensive supplier listings, look at Museums
Association publications, conference trade shows or Murex exhibition trade
shows.
Before you buy cases I would advise you to consider whether you will be
proposing to borrow items from other (perhaps national) organisations or not
and whether because of this you will need to meet their specifications for
security of cases, environment etc.
You also need to consider safe lighting levels, as well as whether you need
to have stabilised humidity in the cases. For more info. see your local
conservator or collection manager

> Does anyone have details/experience of suppliers for display cases,
especially in the London area? We're looking for something which could be
used for displaying the IEE silver (plates, trays, cups etc.).
