PLYMOUTH & WEST DEVON RECORD OFFICE
City Archivist P2 (£27,420 - £29,835)
We are seeking to appoint a new City Archivist to drive the future
development of the record office and ensure it plays a full part in the
life of Plymouth and the City Council.
Plymouth & West Devon Record Office was established in 1952. It operates an
archive service for the unitary authority of Plymouth, and for parts of
neighbouring Southwest Devon. The office is of medium size, attracting
around 4500 searchers a year, with an excellent reputation for its public
service. Key to its future, however, is the need to identify and implement
plans for a new home. Plymouth City Council is committed to this objective,
and we need the right person to take the lead on this major scheme.
You will have at least five years’ successful and recent experience of
archives management, including successful experience of managing staff and
working within a delegated budget. You will have a sound knowledge and
practical experience of ICT applications for archives and records
management, and you will know how to work with the local community and
other stakeholders at all levels.
Plymouth is an attractive waterfront city with a full range of cultural and
leisure opportunities, including one of the best theatres in the country,
and is within easy reach of Dartmoor. For further information on the city
and its record office see www.plymouth.gov.uk and for the Plymouth & West
Devon Record Office see www.plymouth.gov.uk/archives. For an informal
discussion, please contact Nicola Moyle, City Curator, on (01752) 304774
