I'm posting a query on behalf of my colleagues in the Historic Archives
section of Oxfordshire Record Office.
We are currently looking at acquiring some additional secondary source
material for the archive searchroom at ORO. One proposed option is
acquiring sources on CD-ROM - previously, microform sources have been the
preferred choice. We basically wanted to know what experiences other record
offices have had, if any, in providing material on CD-ROM to searchers. Were
there any problems? e.g. damage to the CD; how long did it last as a useful
searchroom tool? (we're concerned about longevity, considering that updates
won't be bought for some years ahead). What training issues were there?
(both for staff and searchers)...
Any feedback will be appreciated. Reply on or off list as preferred
Thanks in advance
