The Gloucestershire Record Office is one of the leading English archive
services and has a long tradition of successful fundraising and innovative
development. We have opportunities now in a number of our teams.
RECORDS MANAGER
Temporary for 12 months
(£20,469-£25,911, with progression beyond £24,726 subject to bar).
37 hours per week.
As part of the Council's developing response to the information and
e-government agendas, we are now seeking to appoint an additional Records
Manager, initially for 12 months, but with the possibility of extension or
permanency. The postholder will have a challenging set of responsibilities
assisting with the management of the County Council's semi-current records,
data protection issues, the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act
and the extension of records management principles to electronic records.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five year's experience in
managing local government records and qualification in Records Management
(or equivalent) would be an advantage. Knowledge of the Data Protection and
Freedom of Information Acts would be beneficial. He/she will possess
excellent communication, inter-personal and advocacy skills as well as
experience of working within a team. Experience of supervising others would
also be desirable.
CATALOGUING ARCHIVIST
Temporary for 6 months
(£17,442-£22,689 with progression beyond £21,282 subject to bar).
37 hours per week
This short-term post is to provide cover in the cataloguing team while a
more experienced member of staff finishes off an HLF-funded cataloguing
project. The post would provide an excellent first post for current
students on one of the University training courses. The postholder will
have the opportunity to become familiar with cataloguing practice in a major
record office, and with the CALM collection management software. He/she
will also spend some time assisting with reader enquiries in the searchroom.
The successful candidate will have or be studying for an MA in Archives
Administration or an equivalent qualification.
