With apologies for cross posting
The AGM of the North West region of the Society of Archivists is to be held
at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester on Wednesday 29 April.
If you are a member of the region and you have not received the agenda,
please let me know.
The business meeting will be preceded by an interactive session with Sharon
Hedges who is working with John Chambers on the development of a marketing
plan for the Society of Archivists. She would like to talk with members
about the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Society, understand the
potential external threats to the continued success of the Society, and
listen to ideas on how the Society could be improved.
After the business meeting, there will be an opportunity to see the museum's
collection centre, study area and strongroom, and find out more about the
archives held at the museum.
Although nominations have now been received for most of the Committee posts,
we have yet to fill the role of Secretary. Following a realignment of
duties, we have transformed the Web Officer role to Communications Officer,
and that person will now be responsible for communicating with members and
managing the mailing list. I am pleased to report that we have a nominee for
this position. The Secretary will now only be responsible for preparing
agendas, attending meetings and writing minutes - it is this role which
remains vacant. I would ask all members to consider whether they could take
this job on. It does not require a great deal of time and is an excellent
way to get more involved with the Society. Expenses for attending meetings
can be met from the regional budget, and you do not have to commit to the
role for more than a year if you wish. With the Sectoral Review proceeding
apace, this is an interesting time for the Society and by becoming more
involved, you could have a chance to influence matters.
If you would like to know more, please contact me.
Best wishes,
Maria
Mrs Maria Sienkiewicz
Secretary, NW region SoA
