Dorset History Centre seeks a Project Technician to support the Bankes Archive Project in digitising archival and photographic resources for long term preservation and creative innovative access.
The project is seeking to catalogue, preserve and digitise this remarkable collection, making it accessible online and through outreach and learning activities. The Project Technician's role will be to assist with the preservation of these documents through digitisation for preservation and outreach; basic conservation procedures and supporting volunteers working on digitisation and conservation tasks.
You will be interested in the use of computer technology for long term preservation; be methodical and organised and able to work with a range of people.A working knowledge of SLR cameras and flat-bed scanners, familiarity with handling archival and photographic material and an understanding of relevant ICT applications are desirable skills for this post.

Digital Resources Intern

This is an opportunity for a graduate to gain experience in digitising mid 20th century photographic resources for long-term preservation and creative innovative access;
(i) To digitise and record archive material to facilitate its preservation and accessibility
(ii) To assist professional staff in the preservation of archives and local studies collections.
(iii) To assist in making archives and local studies collections available for study by the operation of public search room facilities
(iv)To assist in the supply of information to History Centre customers
(v) To enable the post-holder to acquire experience and knowledge of the work of an archive and professional archivist.
This is suitable for a graduate interested in a future career as an archivist or other heritage or information-related profession. You will be interested in the use of computer technology for long-term preservation, be methodical and organised and able to work with a range of people.
This internship is offered as part of the Creative Employment Programme. Candidates must be aged 18-24 and claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. This position is paid at the appropriate National Minimum Wage hourly rate.
