AN INTRODUCTION TO METADATA
Metadata is seen by some as the cataloguing of the future, and by=20
others as an attempt to re-invent the cataloguing wheel. This course=20
doesn't attempt to reconcile those opposing views, but tries to throw=20
some light on how metadata functions in an information context.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
It is intended for any information professional wanting to explore
this=20=
current aspect of the information management and to consider its
effect=20=
on library. It is not a detailed training course on using XML and=20
similar technical markup languages, but provides a way in to=20
understanding the issues and examining the benefits.

* looked at some major standards used in the library and publishing=20
world and at related markup languages
* considered current moves towards interoperability and global standards
