I am looking for some advice on how to obtain a valuation for an archive
collection.
The collection we need an independent assessment of is the personal papers
of a well-known Indian Communist and Trade Union worker in Coventry. It
includes the papers of the Indian Workers Association in Coventry and
nation-wide (Coventry was the headquarters), Punjabi publications and
original poetry readings as well as a wealth of material on Indian
businesses and life in Coventry and further afield. We are very keen to
purchase the collection for Coventry Archives and the Herbert Art Gallery
and Museum in Coventry as it is particularly relevant to the development of
the city and its people, and fits in with our aim to widen our collections
base to represent all the people who make up the city. It also links in
with a project funded through the HLF we are running at the moment to
record oral history from black and Asian women in Coventry.
We are intending to approach the HLF for funding assistance to purchase the
collection. Both the HLF and we require an independent assessor's view of
the purchase price of the collection from someone who understands the
nature of this type of material. I would be very grateful for any
suggestions of people we might approach to help us with this. My email off
list is [log in to unmask], Tel 024 76832414.
Many thanks
