for this great post-doc opportunity in the NW part of Brittany (France).
Sorry for multiple postings.
Starting date and duration: September 2009, for 3 years.
Required skills: primers design for new massive sequencing technology, data
(millions of sequence tags) management, statistics, phylogenetics, assessment
and analysis and of protistan ecological diversity.
Salary: 2500€/month.
A 36-months post-doctoral research position is available at the Station
Biologique de Roscoff (CNRS/UPMC, France) to play a central role in the ANR
project POSEIDON - PrOtiStan EcologIcal bioDiversity in Tara-OceaNs.
POSEIDON is part of a larger project, Tara-Oceans, which aims at uncovering
the links between planktonic biodiversity and biogeochemistry along a
circum-global cruise, using a combination of novel high throughput sequencing
and microscopy technologies. The candidate will occupy a central position for
generating and analyzing the protistan genetic data from the 10 proposed
open oceanic stations. She/he will participate to the design of
group-specific primers and production of PCR products for 454 sequencing, and
will lead the statistical analyses of the genetic data to explore their
phylogenetic, biological, and ecological significance.
The candidate will have
- a doctoral degree in bioinformatics or computer science with a knowledge of
genomic applications
- some knowledge of molecular biology and genetics is not mandatory but would
be appreciated
- an excellent theoretical and applied knowledge in phylogenetics and
statistics, and if possible numerical ecology
- strong background in database mining
- programming skills (knowledge of at least one of the following languages:
Java, C, C++ or Perl)
- excellent communication, skills and team spirit, and a capacity to work in
autonomy are essential.
An application letter, resume, and contact information of at least 2
