And I don't see why betting odds _could_ be used in place of
probabilities - from other sources. The betting odds reflect the
collective opinion(s) of the audience, true? the knowledgeable
bettor is trying to deduce some positive probability of the horse or
dog winning that is not perceived by the bulk of the audience. As
one who thinks he knows the odds, I don't bet - the house always wins.
