St Andrews Studentships in Statistical Ecology
Funding is available for a limited number of students to undertake study for a PhD in Statistical Ecology within the
Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling (CREEM, http://creem2.st-andrews.ac.uk/) at the
University of St Andrews. At least two awards are expected to be made in 2012. The awards are open to international
students, and will cover all fees, together with an enhanced stipend, equal to the standard UK research council stipend
(£13590 per year in 2011/12), plus an additional £1000 per year. Successful applicants will be asked to undertake a modest
amount of teaching, tutoring or demonstrating.
CREEM is an interdisciplinary research centre, actively developing advanced mathematical and statistical methods for
application to practical problems in biology and ecology. It is housed in a purpose-built facility at the old university observatory.
CREEM is also the largest group in the UK's National Centre for Statistical Ecology (http://www.ncse.org.uk/), which brings
together statistical ecologists from seven UK universities, and from several other institutions.
Applicants should have a good first degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Ecology or related discipline.
You may want to contact potential supervisors directly (see the staff link on the CREEM web pages) before
submitting a formal application, to enquire about possible research projects, or to propose one.
Projects for which we are currently seeking able research students are listed at
http://www.creem.st-and.ac.uk/St_Andrews_studentship_statistical_ecology.pdf, but other projects are possible,
depending on the background of applicants and research interests of staff.
Applications should be made through the University of St Andrews website:
