Westlakes Scientific Consulting Ltd (WSC) is a successful commercial 
consultancy with a research base and academic capability in West 
Cumbria.  We have a strong reputation for our research and its 
application in the areas of Environmental Science, Genetics and 
Epidemiology.  In 2005 the Westlakes group was acquired by the 
University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).  This included WSC and its 
parent Westlakes Research Ltd, which is an educational charity. 

The Epidemiology and Statistics Department is seeking to appoint a 
Senior Statistician or Statistician, depending on skills and experience, 
to join an existing team of statisticians working on a range of 
epidemiological and other studies. 

The research programme is currently focussed on health studies of 
workers who have been occupationally exposed to radiation, but it is the 
intent to diversify and expand these activities.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic statistician who is keen 
to develop their professional knowledge and statistical skills.  
Applicants should be highly motivated with good organisational and time 
management skills, a good team worker and capable of carrying out high 
quality statistical analyses.  Effective communication skills are 
essential as you will be required to persuade customers of the merits of 
proposals and report the results, communicating (orally and written) 
with other researchers and lay audiences. 

For the post of Senior Statistician you will normally have a degree in 
mathematics or statistics with an MSc/PhD, ideally backed by relevant 
post-graduate experience.  Experience of working on epidemiology or 
genetics or related projects would be an advantage.  Experience of 
leading successful projects and/or a track record of publications is 
desirable. 

However, if you are near the start of your career and wish to join a

you too.  The post of Statistician may suit a recent graduate with a MSc 
or a strong BSc in Statistics or a relevant discipline, with statistics 
as a major component.  We offer the opportunity to develop a statistical

The salary range, depending on experience and qualifications is 
£32,000-£48,000 for a Senior Statistician and £25,000-£35,000 for a 
Statistician. 

The contract of employment for will be with Westlakes Scientific 
Consulting Ltd, which is the commercial trading arm of Westlakes 
Research Institute, part of the UCLan Group.
