The Departments 8.4, "Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis", and 4.2, "Imaging and Wave Optics", of Divisions 8 and 4, are looking for a
Scientist specialized in applied mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, engineering sciences or a similar subject
to join them as soon as possible. You will be given the opportunity to obtain a doctorate.
The post is available on the basis of a 2.5-year fixed-term contract. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund. Upon consultation, you will be employed either in Berlin or in Braunschweig.
Your tasks:
You are tackling a high-dimensional inverse problem in the field of optical interferometric form measurement in connection with the so-called tilted-wave interferometer. This task includes the application of regularization procedures, large-scale optimization of non-convex functions, as well as the quantification of uncertainties using stochastic approaches. In addition, application of machine learning tools for this problem shall be explored. The specific tasks are
• developing numerical and statistical methods or machine learning procedures to deal with a high-dimensional inverse problem in optics
• cooperating with a committed team consisting of physicists and engineers performing measurements using the optical system
• writing scientific publications and presenting results at conferences
Optical imaging systems are key for many high-technology applications. Departments 8.4 and 4.2 of PTB are successfully cooperating in this field since many years and they have close links to industry.
Your profile:
• You have completed relevant scientific university studies (German "Diplom" or Master's).
