APPLIED STATISTICIAN
Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland (BioSS) seeks an Applied Statistician to be based at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) in Dundee. The vacant post has two components;50% of an externally funded project and 50% consultancy and research.
The external project, 'Development of unified data models and data pre-processing strategies and the generation of meaningful, tandardised statistical analyses of metabolome variability in crop plants', will be carried out in collaboration with SCRI and University of Wales, Aberystwyth and will involve:
1 contributing to a survey of existing literature and databases describing compositional analysis of crop plants;
2 developing robust peak table in-filling strategies to deal with missing values and to advise on appropriate normalization strategies for data from different instruments;
3 analysing and characterising metabolite distributions;
4 comparing methodologies (statistical and machine learning) for comparison of metabolite profiles from the same crop species.
The postholder will also provide statistical consultancy and research to contribute to and strengthen the science programme at SCRI. Further information about SCRI is available at http://www.scri.ac.uk.
Candidates should have a good relevant degree and at least 3 years postgraduate experience (PhD or MSc preferred).The appointment will be at Band 6 with a starting salary of £22,351 - £25,767 (under review). This post has guaranteed funding for two years but we hope to obtain further finance to continue the post after that time.
