CEN/ISSS MMI-DC Workshop on Dublin Core Metadata

Announcement for workshop on standardisation and co-operation issues
for Government Information Programmes to be held in Zaragoza, Spain,
on 3 September 2004

The CEN/ISSS Workshop on Dublin Core Metadata for Multimedia
Information - Dublin Core (MMI-DC) of the European Committee for
Standardization CEN (http://www.cenorm.be/isss/mmi-dc/) is organising
a workshop on the subject of standardisation and co-operation issues
related to interoperability between Government Information Programmes
in Europe.

This invitational workshop will take place in conjunction with EGOV04
(see: http://falcon.ifs.uni-linz.ac.at/news/cfp_egovernment2004.html)
on 3 September 2004 in Zaragoza, Spain. The preliminary agenda for
this workshop is included below.

The background of this work is that many countries in Europe are
currently developing organisational and technical frameworks for the
management of and access to government information. The work in CEN
aims to investigate issues and propose common approaches related to
management and exchange of information, with the goal to find and
promote interoperable solutions on a European scale.

As meeting space will be limited to 50-60 people, we are asking you
to return the attached form to us by 15 June 2004, registering your
interest to attend this meeting. Please also let us know if you want
to present developments in your country in the area of metadata and
other standards or frameworks for access to and management of
government information.

As we are planning afternoon discussion sessions, we would appreciate
it if you could indicate on the attached form session if there are
any specific subjects that you would want to see covered.

Participation in the workshop will be free of charge although we may
need to ask a small fee for refreshments etc.

Please do not hesitate to forward this message to other people in
your organisation or to other organisations in your country that may
be interested in these issues and ask them to contact the workshop
organiser Makx Dekkers ([log in to unmask]) directly.

We are planning to send out the invitations in early July. Presenters
will be contacted separately so that we can post their presentations
on the CEN Web site ahead of the meeting.

We are looking forward to meeting many of you on 3 September 2004 in
Zaragoza.
