David might find this paper of interest. It does actually cite AST.

Subject: Re: PDL-P: PDL 2.4.1?
Incidentally, I just got back from another solar physics conference.
I've been evangelizing PDL a bit, and groups have now been asking for
copies of the 2.4.0 distribution. Over the last couple of months, I've
distributed about 150 CDs.
I also just got a paper accepted about PDL itself (more or less) as
it applies to image resampling. You can get it at
http://www.boulder.swri.edu/~deforest/Papers/2003-resample/resample.pdf
Nothing all that new -- just a summary of PDL::Transform, how the ->map
method works, and why that algorithm is better than what most people
have been doing (at least in solar physics).
Cheers,
Craig
