1. Updates for Members

1.1 Call for #altc Proposals open - submission deadline 13 March 2019

The Call for Proposals for ALT’s Annual Conference 2019 is now open. Submit a proposal and contribute to the critical dialogue we seek to foster on technology in education and its political, social and economic context. The conference takes place 3-5 September 2019, University of Edinburgh. https://go.alt.ac.uk/2XsIZ4F

1.2 Findings from the 2018 ALT Annual Survey

1.3 Open Education Week, 4 - 8 March 2019

Open Education Week was founded in 2013 by the Open Education Consortium to raise awareness and showcase impact of open education on teaching and learning worldwide. Events are taking place globally and across time zones throughout this week. ALT’s Chief Executive, Maren Deepwell, will be speaking about OER in the UK context as part of the Creative Commons Network web-a-thon, at 16.30GMT on Tuesday 5 March: https://go.alt.ac.uk/2Ev8Ik1. ALT’s Open Education SIG (OESIG) will be hosting a webinar with Shona Whyte on 'Adopting open practices in schools’ at 09.30 GMT on Wednesday 6 March https://go.alt.ac.uk/2SGw8YT.

1.5 International Women’s Day, 8 March 2019

International Women’s Day is on Friday 8 March. The theme for the 2019 campaign is #BalanceforBetter: https://www.internationalwomensday.com/. 1.6 ALT Learning Technologist of the Year Awards now open for entries until 25 March 2019

2.3 Webinar: Women in the Open: Experiences, perspectives and approaches 8 March 19 1pm

Women are leading and participating in great achievements in the Open Movement, and we have much more to contribute. Javiera Atenas, Frances Bell and Caroline Kuhn will facilitate speakers and other participants in exploring our topic during this free webinar. 2.5 Course: The Unbundled University, the Market and Digital Technology, openly available on FutureLearn, 11 March 2019

This course is one of the outputs of an ESRC and South Africa National Research Foundation Newton Fund award, a collaborative research project between University of Leeds (PI Prof Neil Morris) and University of Cape Town (PI Prof Laura Czerniewicz).  This research project explored the changing nature of higher education, as a result of digitisation and marketisation, and explored the growing abundance of unbundled educational provision and the partnerships between universities and external companies, including online platform providers and online program management companies. 2.6 MOOC - Using Technology in Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning, 11 March 2019

Research evidence can give teachers possible approaches to support their students’ learning. This four-week course explores case studies and research from expert teachers and leading academics on how technology can be used to support teaching and learning, and helps you reflect on how technology is currently used in your own context and compare the different ways it can impact learning and collaboration. 2.7 Call for Presenters - Poll Everywhere User Group event, 11 March 19

Presenters are sought for the next Poll Everywhere User Group event, 11 April 2019, University of Liverpool. This year’s theme is “Increasing Classroom Engagement”. If you have used Poll Everywhere to promote classroom engagement and want to share your experience with the group, we are looking for presentations of about 15 minutes in duration. 2.9 Seminar - Promoting universal accessibility in higher education: The role of information technologies, University of Worcester, 25 March 2019

Keynote speaker, Professor Richard Jackson from the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College in Massachusetts. A case study from Ashiya Abdool Satar from UNISA, the largest online university in Southern Africa. Colleagues from the University of Kent, whose OPERA initiative won the Times Higher Education award for Outstanding Support for Students, will illustrate how a systematic approach to universal digital accessibility has transformed the student experience and impacted  on students' learning outcomes. 2.11 Event - Use of Video in Higher Education: Theory and Practice, Said Business School, University of Oxford, 16 April 2019, 9.30 - 16.30

2.12 Call for Proposals - Measuring Excellence in Higher Education: Approaches and their Impact, University of Wolverhampton, 11-13 September 2019

The HEIR conference is an international event attracting delegates from across the HE sector including: students, teachers, researchers, managers, data practitioners and institutional experts, quality professionals, educational developers, policy makers, digital service specialists, consultants, and all who share an interest in the future of education.
