1.3 Open Education Week, 4 - 8 March 2019

Open Education Week was founded in 2013 by the Open Education Consortium to raise awareness and showcase impact of open education on teaching and learning worldwide. Events are taking place globally and across time zones throughout this week. 2.5 Course: The Unbundled University, the Market and Digital Technology, openly available on FutureLearn, 11 March 2019

This course is one of the outputs of an ESRC and South Africa National Research Foundation Newton Fund award, a collaborative research project between University of Leeds (PI Prof Neil Morris) and University of Cape Town (PI Prof Laura Czerniewicz).  This research project explored the changing nature of higher education, as a result of digitisation and marketisation, and explored the growing abundance of unbundled educational provision and the partnerships between universities and external companies, including online platform providers and online program management companies. Keynote speaker, Professor Richard Jackson from the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College in Massachusetts. A case study from Ashiya Abdool Satar from UNISA, the largest online university in Southern Africa.
