Understanding how the brain works is a fundamental undertaking in life sciences and in neurosciences in particular. Major advances in this area of research are intimately related to and rely on the development of specific tools designed to investigate living matter at different levels of scrutiny.

The aim of this workshop is to give an overview of recent advances on magnetic probes and sensors for neural investigation, and on magnetic modelling of neurons. The workshop will bring together scientists working on theoretical and experimental aspects on the investigation of the neural transmission through an electromagnetic approach, focusing in particular on the magnetic signature of signals. Amongst the topics of the workshop:

Magnetic modelling of the neuron

Magnetic probes for neural recordings (SQUIDS, atomic magnetometers...)

New electro-magnetic probes for neuronal recordings (flexible probes, NV centres, GMR sensors, …)

Magnetic neuronal signals at local scale

The workshop, organized by the Magnetrodes FP7-FET 600730 European Project (www.magnetrodes.com), will take place in the beautiful buildings of the Academia de Sciencia of Lisbon on November 23th25th, 2015.
