New piece "The Role of Citizenship in Addressing Refugee Crises in Africa's Great Lakes Region" by Lucy Hovil (Senior Researcher for the project) and Zachary Lomo (Advisor to the project) on the Debate Forum of URBAN REFUGEES: http://urban-refugees.org/debate/how-can-citizenship-help-us-address-refugee-crisis-in-africas-great-lakes-region/ Since 2008, the International Refugee Rights Initiative has carried out a research and advocacy project to generate better understandings of the lived experience of unequal access to belonging and citizenship, and its relationship to displacement in the Great Lakes region. The focus of the work has been on those aspects of policy over which there is greatest contestation: questions of multiple citizenships, local identities, border communities, and the impact of emerging regional forms of citizenship. The following contribution brings together some of the refugee policy implications that have come through the research.
