Many thanks for your email, there are a number of factors to take into consideration when considering sound within a gallery. Under British Standards, there is the Principle of 2 senses, it's important that NPG considers how they would create this experience for people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing, in addition to controlling the volume and induction loops. In addition to this, there are people who may not have freedom from distractibility/sensory processing. Its key that under the Equality Act 2010 it is important that NPG considers how any activity they are creating, weighs in on how they are meeting peoples needs. ________________________________ From: Museums Computer Group <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> on behalf of Katherine Biggs <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> Sent: Tuesday, 14 December 2021 2:29 AM www.npg.org.uk<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.npg.org.uk%2F&data=04%7C01%7Ccventress%40wakefield.gov.uk%7Cb55995d985694e9109e908d9bf0bee69%7Cd76faab796b740c79b253d2fbd4ac1f1%7C0%7C0%7C637750881142387174%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&sdata=nLeIBk5vJpVajau91aSmXRFDAayElhwIpqiCwukZKD0%3D&reserved=0> |

I’d also suggest you set up an institutional Flickr account, put the images up there on the Flickr Commons with an appropriate license and description, and put them up also on wikimedia commons so that folks can see them, and link them to the wikipedia page of the house. This isn’t cataloguing or preservation, but it is dissemination. |

- Portable Antiquities Scheme (https://finds.org..uk/<https://finds.org.uk/>) - as I understand it this has struggled for institutional support and owed its existence to some seriously dedicated individuals! - artist biographies (like at National Portrait Gallery e.g. https://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp04566/jmw-turner?search=sas&sText=turner&OConly=true) - clearly aligned to the collections objects and presumably maintained by specialist curators? - what about any institutions that have collected digitally submitted things like memories, poetry, recipes? Who maintains those records? It strikes me that many of the projects funded by NLHF during the First World War Centenary - see https://www.heritagefund.org.uk/hub/107879/project - were actually run by local groups and not institutions; one notable success is https://www.surreyinthegreatwar.org.uk/ which has been continued within the remit of Surrey Heritage, a council department that looks after the counties historical assets and information. |

It would be worth reaching out to Wikimedia UK (https://wikimedia.org.uk/) if you haven't already done so, as they will be able to provide you with resources and guidance on running editathons. I can also recommend contacting Martin Poulter (http://infobomb.org/) who is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to Wikimedia and GLAM. Also Ewan McAndrew, our Wikimedia in Residence here at the University of Edinburgh, has created lots of resources about editing Wikipedia and running editathons that you might find useful. Until now, most research relevant to GLAM-Wiki community is focusing on single project and few researchers study the development of GLAM-Wiki community through research methods like the interviews or questionnaire survey on both GLAM side and Wikimedia side. As the essence of GLAM-Wiki community is the collaborative, non-profit(most) projects between two separate institutions, it would be meaningful to collect comments, attitudes and suggestions from both sides to depict the current development of the community. Therefore, I sincerely hope that you can participate in my online questionnaire survey if you have any experience in conducting GLAM-Wiki projects. |

As Simon has already suggested, the best course of action is to contact Wikimedia UK ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), the UK’s national Wikimedia chapter, who have a commitment to work in partnership with the culture and education sectors. They will be able to advise you on what you can and can’t do and can also provide information on how to get involved in a wide range of Wikimedia initiatives including partnership projects, editathons and the Wikimedian in Residence programme. You have probably seen the page of the Wikimedia with some tips, best practice, and examples of outreach: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM Museum Collections on Wikipedia: Opening Up to Open Data Initiatives<https://mw19.mwconf.org/paper/museum-collections-on-wikipedia-opening-up-to-open-data-initiatives/> Indeed, the easiest way to go about this is to partner with the local Wikimedia chapter to develop a strategy. |

Your should get in contact with the UK Wikimedia foundation, they run a fellows programme where they can place Wikipedian's with museums or give you advice, and they run with others a GLAM outreach programme. |

There's always an exception to this, and Wikimedia does return good audiences to GLAM sites, and I've seen good examples of FB links working well for some venues. |

First, I would like to clarify that regarding the artworks available for "Download", as mentioned previously on USEUM we only include the artworks we have fully vetted in terms of IP. As Melissa mentioned, I also found it very frustrating that every once in a while, I would read a press release about 100K artworks made free, but after reading the small print I would realise there were all sorts of strings attached. Additionally, for all artworks on USEUM that belong to museums we are linking them either to the respective artwork page of the museum's website, or to the respective Wikimedia entry, which also makes clear where the artwork and its image come from. |
