Dear CGWG colleagues,

The 2024 RGS Annual International Conference will take place in London at the Society and Imperial College London, and online, from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 August 2024.

We understand that involvement in the RGS conference may be difficult for some members, including those who do not describe themselves as geographers. The latter might ask whether attendance to a geography conference might be justified, especially in the climate of limited finance resources to support conference activities! However, since the CGWG is a network that encourages cross-disciplinary conversation (which mirrors the RGS ethos), we very much appreciate efforts [...]

Hi James,

My book is coming out soon, and I’m happy to write a short piece for Carceral Crossings based on some of the research.

My book is about the ways private institutions like landlords, employers, and Airbnb, along with a range of companies and company types (airlines, Uber, TaskRabbit, etc.) define crime types, determine the severity of crimes, and impose post-sentence sanctions for crimes already adjudicated and punished by the state. I’m thinking I could write a short piece on a particular punishment—I’ll have to think about it a bit, but possibly about my own banishment from Airbnb, which [...]
