I know nothing about blackfly attractants but I expect that you are aware that carbon tetrachloride is an excellent attractant for some species of diptera - notably the seaweed fly, Coelopa frigida . All the best, Mike >>> Michael Charles Morris <[log in to unmask]> 18/05/99 07:30:11 >>> During a study on attractants for sheep blowflies in New Zealand, I made a serendipidous discovery that one of the sulphur compounds also attracted sandflies (kiwi for blackflies). A 10 litre bottle to which 0.1ul of compound had been added was left outside, and later I found sandflies had flown into the bottle. Unfortunately I can't remember whether the compound was dimethyl sulphide or ethane thiol, and the government research company I worked for refuses to let me look at my own data, but it may be worth following up this finding. Since I am no longer in NZ ad now have othr research interests, I will not be following it up myself. I would be interested if anyone has had any similar findings.
