Lectureship in Statistics at Lancaster University

This position is available for an initial term of three years,
though it is anticipated that the post is likely to be extended.
The  starting date is negotiable between 1 January 2000 and 1 October 2000. 

The post is based in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. 
The appointee will have two roles:
(i) as a lecturer in the Statistics group you will be expected to
undertake  teaching and administration duties as well as to develop 
your own research interests in statistical methodology.
(ii) together with other members of the Statistics group, you will also
be expected to develop collaborative research links with colleagues 
in Environmental Science and Biology.

The collaborative aspects of the job will build on existing productive 
research links between the research groups, as well as providing high-level 
statistical input to the design and analysis of new projects in these 
application areas. 

Applicants should have a developing record of research in either 
statistical methodology or in the application of statistical
methods to substantive scientific problems. Previous experience 
of the analysis of environmental/biological applications, spatial statistics,
time series or extreme values would be helpful but not essential.

The Statistics group at Lancaster is one of the strongest statistical
research groups in the UK, with 11 full time academic staff and about

The post is one of 5, in a range of disciplines across the University,
which have been created as part of a HEFCE-funded
initiative, Environment Lancaster. This initiative, building on existing 
strengths in the quantitative modelling of environmental and biological 
systems,  is aimed at enhancing interdisciplinary research in environmental
sciences at Lancaster.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the scale  17,238-30,065 pounds.
