The ICMS in Edinburgh organises and/or hosts research programmes, conferences and workshops in the mathematical sciences. They don't provide funding directly, but they do advise on sources of funding and help in the preparation of grant applications, as well as providing administrative support and premises, the latter for meetings of up to about 45 people. (Larger meetings find venues elsewhere in Edinburgh but are still ICMS-supported.) Even though they don't fund proposals they are selective about what they include in their activities, through the recommendations of their Programme Committee and referees. The Programme Committee usually meet in June, at which time decisions are made about proposals that are submitted round about the turn of the year. If therefore you'd like to submit a proposal then you should have something ready (only a couple of pages) by the end of this year. If you do submit this winter then you should be intending to hold the conference or workshop in 2001-2002, such is the necessary lead-time. All the workshops that I have heard about or been involved in have been deemed very enjoyable and successful by the participants.
