The Institute of Cancer Research MEDICAL STATISTICIAN Clinical Trials & Statistics Unit (CTSU), Section of Epidemiology The Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit (CTSU) is part of the Section of Epidemiology at the Sutton site of The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). The ICR, together with the adjacent Royal Marsden NHS Trust (RMT), is one of the world's leading cancer research centres. The CTSU initiates, conducts and analyses national and international randomised clinical trials of cancer treatment designed to directly influence routine clinical practice within the National Health Service and overseas. The Unit has a special interest in breast cancer but also conducts trials in other disease sites. The CTSU currently employs five statisticians, six trial co-ordinators/data managers, a research assistant and three part-time research secretaries, with clinical co-ordinators and additional trial co-ordinators working in close collaboration. Many of the trials are run by the CTSU in collaboration with a principal clinician (clinical co-ordinator) at the RMT. Applications are invited for a statistician to join the CTSU to work on the initiation, conduct and analysis of clinical trials of cancer treatment conducted in collaboration with clinical colleagues. You will be involved in all aspects of study design, data handling, statistical analysis and trial management and will also be encouraged to pursue your own research interests. Your principal role will be to work with our clinical colleagues at the RMT on the development of new studies and on continuing studies which are underway. We are seeking an experienced statistician, who holds a post-graduate qualification in statistics (preferably medical statistics) to join an existing successful research team. Experience with survival analysis methods / clinical trials procedures and general programming skills (in SPSS, STATA, EGRET) would be strongly preferred. The ability to communicate statistical concepts to clinicians and other health professionals is essential, as is the ability to organise working time appropriately and effectively.
