		LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN STATISTICS

		    VICTORIA UNIVERSITY OF WELLINGTON

	    SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTING SCIENCES

Applications are invited for two posts at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer 
level which will become available in the School of Mathematical and 
Computing Sciences early in the year 2000.  The level at which the 
appointments are made will be commensurate with qualifications and 
experience. (A Senior Lecturer corresponds approximately to a US
Associate Professor, and a Lecturer corresponds approximately to a US 
Assistant Professor).

The teaching programme in Statistics covers Mathematical Statistics and
Applied Statistics which is provided for client Schools of the University
as well as internal Statistics majors. Appointees should be specialists 
in one or more of, Stochastic Processes, Multivariate Analysis, Generalised
Linear Models, Time Series Analysis or Sampling Theory. Additional desirable
attributes would include a background in any of, Operations Research, Data
Mining, Statistical (Computer) Graphics and Statistical Consulting. 

Candidates will be expected to undertake research, and to be commited to 
excellent and innovative teaching. The School of Mathematical and Computing
Sciences includes the disciplines, Computer Science, Mathematics, 
Operations Research and Statistics. The appointees will be welcome to join
any of the School's research teams. 

Present research strengths of the School include Point Processes, Biometrics, 
Bayesian Methods, Information Theory, Computability and Complexity Theory, 
and Discrete Mathematics.
