1. Biomedical Service -10% Discount on EBMR if ordered before 25th June
=======================================================================
Ovid / CHEST are pleased to announce that Ovid's new Evidence Based
Medicine Reviews file is to be made available via the NISS National
Biomedical Data Service from August 1998.

The Ovid Evidence Based Medicine Reviews file consists of the following
databases:

The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
-------------------------------------------
published by the Cochrane Collaboration, the international organisation
dedicated to applying evidence-based-medicine principles to the review
of important clinical topics. The Cochrane Database of Systematic
Reviews consists of a set of about 500 (currently) documents that are
meta-analysis of 'all' the clinical trials performed on a single
clinical topic. Currently meta-analyses and protocols are written for
45 topical areas. The Cochrane group also intends to expand areas
covered by adding groups to the list.

Best Evidence
-------------
a database which contains the ACP Journal Club (a publication of the
American College of Physicians), and the journal Evidence-Based
Medicine (a joint publication of the ACP and the British Medical
Journal Group). The Best Evidence database is a collection of reviews
of individual journal articles. The collection currently contains about
1,200 reviews.

Ovid has importantly bundled the two databases together so that the two
files can be searched simultaneously. Likewise, Ovid has implemented
links from Medline citation to EBMR review, thereby allowing the
end-user to link seamlessly from one database to the other. Taking the
idea of resource integration a step further, Ovid has also implemented
links from the EBMR reviews to the Ovid Electronic Journal Collections,
thereby rendering this range of resources fully searchable and scalable
at one time.

The Evidence Based Medicine Reviews file will be available via the Ovid
/ CHEST National Biomedical Data Service from August '98. Updates will
be monthly and pricing will be by concurrent user. The commitment
period for subscriptions to this database is annual.

Subscribers are also invited to take advantage of a promotion which
gives a 10% discount on the list price of the database if ordered prior
to June 25th.

Pricing, to which VAT should be added, is as follows:
-------
Data fee: 625 pounds for one concurrent user.
Data fee: 215 pounds for each additional concurrent user.

Access fee: 625 pounds for each concurrent user.

If your institution has not purchased any Full Text Collections (e.g.
only subscribes to one or more of Medline, CINAHL or CancerLit) you
will need to purchase access for concurrent users at a cost of 625
pounds per concurrent user for access to EBMR.

If your Institution has already paid access fees with a purchase of
at least one Full Text Collection you need not purchase extra accesses
for use with EBMR because the accesses already purchased will allow
you to access EBMR as well as the FT collection(s).

Examples:

 1. Institution has purchased Medline only.
Now wishes to purchase EBMR with 3 concurrent users.
    Cost of EBMR:
    Data fee 625 + 215 + 215 = 1055
    Access fee 625 x 3 = 1875
                                  ----
                    Total       = 2930

 2. Institution has purchased Medline and one full text collection
    with 3 concurrent users.
Now wishes to purchase EBMR with 3 concurrent users.
    Data fee 625 + 215 + 215 = 1055
Access fee - covered within access fee for original full text
    collection,

2. Inspec
=========
There was a very healthy response to the survey on interest in a potential
Inspec Agreement, and negotiations are continuing with the aim of a service
starting early in the Academic Year 98/99.
