I am sympathetic and might move to become similarly disgruntled for a
while, but I just can't believe that hirers' attitudes are really
'laissez-faire' (they'd imagine themselves supportive, selective), or that
the plight of the poet is really exacerbated by the usual wage
distribution nonsense.  We're what we tentatively are wholly due to this
imblance and its analogues.  Yes of course it's irritating.
