Dear list:

Before you vanish into the Tarot question, thanks to Esther,
Karen, and Willis for responding. Any further ideas are welcome and may
be addressed to me personally.

As for the Tarot decks, two thoughts: (1) Waite, the designer of
the deck commonly seen in stores here, was drawing on Rosicrucian
interest in "ancient" symbols and Hebrew mysticism must have seemed
esoteric enough; (2) Jews, remember, figured prominently among card
manufacturers, at least in Renaissance Italy. This is an aspect of your
query no one has mentioned and it may be worth pursuing.

			Cordially, Susan Einbinder
