In case you were wondering about named locomotives, here is the reply I received from another listowner... ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- [snip, snip] Which (if any) other saints have locomotives named after them? The GWR gave 20 locos saints names. They were: Agatha, Ambrose, Andrew, Augustine, Bartholomew, Benedict, Bernard, Catherine, Cuthbert, David, Dunstan, Gabriel, George, Helena, Martin, Nicholas, Patrick, Sebastian, Stephen, Vincent. There was an LMS jubilee named St Vincent, but after the island. There was an LNWR George the Fifth named St George. There were 2 LNER A1's, St Hugo and St Simon, but these were named after racehorses.. There was an NBR atlantic named St Johnstoun, after Perth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Bedford Designer of Photo-Etches [log in to unmask] owner Brit_Rail-L --- british railways historical list --------------------------------------------------------------------- * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mark Harris S-mail: Finance Division, University of London, Room 255, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU E-mail: [log in to unmask] Tel: 0171-636 8000 x 3488 Fax: 0171-631 1195 "The reason of a thing is not to bee inquired after till you are sure the thing it selfe bee soe.
