The British Museum is seeking a curator to provide six months’ maternity cover for the Museum’s collections of objects from Renaissance and seventeenth-century Europe, to document, display and interpret their significance for the public.

Key areas of responsibility:

• To document the collections to a high standard, both cataloguing digitally on the collection database including image taking and uploading as necessary, and in paper records
• To work with the relevant teams within the museum on care of the collections, and their storage, display and conservation
• To assist in providing expert advice on objects discovered under the Treasure Act
• To support the research, acquisition and public programmes

Person Specification:
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant humanities subject, preferably with post-graduate experience. You will be fluent in a European language in addition to English and have reading knowledge of another, such as French, German or Italian. You will have experience of working with material culture and good knowledge of the artefacts of the period. You should also have some experience of display, cataloguing, publication, and public speaking as lectures, gallery talks or broadcast projects. You will have a personable manner and good communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as a team member.
