Hi all, see the below information for the Women Enabled International and UN Population Fund CRPD COSP side event and note that RSVP is required as soon as possible to [log in to unmask] Thursday, June 13, 1:15 to 2:45 PM Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice, 320 East 43rd Street, New York City Nelson Mandela Room, 10th Floor WEI and UNFPA Women and girls with disabilities around the world face violations of their right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health that are unique from and disproportionate to other women and to men and boys with disabilities. In the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights in particular, women and girls with disabilities encounter health facilities and information that are inaccessible to them, and they are forced to work with health personnel who are not trained to provide them care and are not aware of their rights, which may lead to them not being offered needed sexual and reproductive health information, goods, and services-such as contraception or comprehensive sexuality education-and are frequently subjected to medical interventions without their consent, including forced sterilization, abortion, and contraception. The event will provide guidance to States, service providers, and disability and women's rights advocates about how to ensure the right to health, particularly sexual and reproductive health, for women and girls with disabilities. The event will bring together women with disabilities to share their experiences alongside experts working at the intersection of women's rights and disability rights and on health system strengthening to provide insights on rights-based service provision. The event will also highlight WEI and UNFPA's recent publication, <https://womenenabled.org/wei-unfpa-guidelines.html> Women and Young Persons with Disabilities: Guidelines for Providing Rights-Based and Gender-Responsive Services to Address Gender-Based Violence & Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
