CfP: Men, Masculinities, and Reproduction

How can scholars conceptualize men, masculinities, and reproduction? How might research on reproduction contribute to the theoretical and empirical development of masculinity studies? What have trajectories for research on men, masculinities, and reproduction looked like in the past and what might they look like in the future? In this call for papers, on behalf of NORMA the guest editors Rene Almeling, Assoc. Prof. of Sociology, Yale University and Sebastian Mohr, Senior Lecturer in Gender Studies, Karlstad University, seek submissions on the topic of "Men, Masculinities, and Reproduction." We will interpret the theme broadly, and are thus open to submissions from a wide variety of disciplines, theoretical perspectives, regions, and methodologies (historical, qualitative, quantitative, demographic, etc.). In particular, we encourage submissions that theorize the relationship between reproduction and masculinities and/or examine the historical and social dimensions of cis and trans* reproductive bodies, lives, and experiences. We understand the term reproduction to include a broad range of biological, bodily/material, and social processes, which might include (but are not limited to) such topics as reproductive health and capacities, conception, pregnancy, birth, contraception, abortion, infertility, and reproductive technologies (IVF, surrogacy, gamete donation, etc).
