Hi

These have been discussed on the SHCG e-mail list before. If you click on the link below you can search all previous posts. E.g. if you put in ‘extinguisher’ it’ll bring up 18 posts, going back to 2006. There may be some useful info on there, in previous responses.

Thanks all for your responses on this which were really helpful! I’ve attached an image of the object in question. We are contacting the fire brigade and will let you know how it pans out.

Is it a blue harvard May contain phosgene. Do not handle it and contact a chemical disposal company. Could be a serious skin irritant. And eye. Gives off a nasty gas too if it is. I wouldn't handle it and I am moderate in a my approach to materials in collections.
Keep us posted!

Hello,
One of my colleagues has found a ‘glass bomb fire extinguisher’ in our collection which is leaking orange liquid.

Does anyone know what the potential hazards are and should we dispose of it? What is the best way of doing this?

Many thanks

Liz
